Liverpool players have spent the day reflecting on last night’s thrilling 4-2 victory over Arsenal in the Champions League.

Another special European night at Anfield saw the Reds reach the semi-finals of the Champions League for the third time in four years in the most dramatic of circumstances.

Fernando Torres, who’s 29th goal of the season, gave Liverpool a temporary lead in the second half, says it was the biggest night of his career so far.

“It was the biggest night of my career and I came to Liverpool for nights like this,” said Torres. “It is unbelievable - the high tempo of both teams, the fans, everything.

“It was special for all of us because of the work that we put in. To score four goals against a very good side is a good achievement for us and we are all very proud.

“It was a great game for Liverpool and for Arsenal but the most important thing for us is that we are now in the semi-finals.”

Xabi Alonso praised the fans in the stadium last night for their continued support throughout the game, even when Rafael Benitez’s side looked to have lost the tie in the closing moments of the game.

“I don’t know if it is self belief but we keep going no matter what happens,” said the Spaniard. “Playing at Anfield is a massive boost for us and to get that penalty and score that third was very special.

“The crowd was absolutely crucial. Their support was a massive boost for us and on European nights they play a massive role for us.

“After their second goal I thought it was going to be tough because it was already 85 minutes and we were tired but we kept going and we managed the situation well.”

Meanwhile striker Peter Crouch, who started last night’s epic game, has been looking forward to the semi-final tie against arch rivals Chelsea.

“We have to get over this one first but that’s going to be another massive, massive game,” he said. “We’ve had the upper hand at times in the semi-finals but, make no mistake, they are a fantastic side as well.

“We don’t want to sit back and say we’ve done well tonight. We’ve got to go into a massive semi-final.

“All games are tough but those ones against Chelsea are probably going to be even tougher. We’ll have to make sure we get ourselves into a lead, maybe in the first leg, but we are capable of going to Chelsea and getting a result, I think. “
