Co-owners in peace talks
Written by Max Munton on June 20th, 2008

Liverpool Football Club co-owner George Gillett has revealed that he and business partner Tom Hicks are attempting to make their once “unworkable” relationship, workable.

Gillett revealed that communication between the two parties have “substantially improved” and they are seeking to work together again for the good of the club.

He told Canadian radio station Fan590, “Time is a healer and there were things that had happened previously. It took a while for both of us to realise that we weren’t communicating very well and the huge responsibility we have to the fans to do the right thing for the club.

“I believe that the Hicks family are communicating better with us and we’re communicating better with them and I think that will be much better for the club.”

The breakdown in relationships behind the scenes at Anfield has caused financial difficulties for manager Rafael Benitez, who has been forced to offload players to raise the cash for improvements to his squad.

Recent reports suggest Benitez will ask Gillett and Hicks to come up with Valencia’s £20million asking price for Spanish international winger David Silva.

Gillett added, “All of us are focused on the transfer window and we want to be ready for that and we want to have adequate resources and good communication with Rafa and our hope is that we’re making better progress.”

Meanwhile Gillett and Hicks have been invited to attend a British parliamentary inquiry into the way football clubs are run by foreign owners, amid concerns from fans.
