Torres is staying, Villa might join him
Written by Gerry Ormonde on June 15th, 2008

Fernando Torres has once again clearly stated that he has no intention of leaving Liverpool.

Recent press speculation has said that new Chelsea boss Luiz Felipe Scolari would be willing to bid £40million for the Spanish striker but Torres insists he’s very happy at Anfield and is staying put.

‘I want to say very clearly that I’m not on the market and that it’s my desire to continue at Liverpool,’ he told the Sunday Express.

‘I’m very happy there and I want to carry on.

‘I came to the club top win trophies. I have many years left on my contract and I expect to win some silverware there.

‘I have gone through things I have never experienced before, like playing in a Champions League semi-final.

‘Now that I have come within touching distance of glory I want it all.

‘I know now what it means to be a champion and that’s made me even happier and hungrier for success.

‘And what has happened behind the scenes at the club has nothing to do with me.

‘I don’t pay much attention to that stuff or to any of the problems. It hasn’t affected me at all.’

Meanwhile Torres was delighted to score the opening goal in Spain’s 2-1 victory over Sweden yesterday, a result that see’s them progress to the quarter-finals of Euro 2008 with a game to spare.

‘I’m pleased with this victory,’ said Torres.

‘My first goal? I remain calm - that’s always been the case. I managed an important goal, like that of Villa, and now we’ve qualified.’

david villaMeanwhile, David Villa has hinted that he would be very interested in a summer move to Liverpool.

The Spanish international whose hat-trick against Russia and late winning goal against Sweden on Saturday has ensured Spain’s place in the quarter finals of Euro 2008, has been linked with both Liverpool and Chelsea in recent weeks but he made no secret of where his preference lies.

‘Liverpool and Chelsea are both big clubs with a lot of attraction,’ said Villa.

‘Liverpool have a Spanish coach and I also have a lot of friends there.

‘When Rafa was coach at Valencia and I was at Zaragoza there was contact about me joining Valencia but I couldn’t arrive until the year after he left there.’
