Young Liverpool midfielder Danny Guthrie has left the club by signing for Newcastle United for an undisclosed fee.

Guthrie never properly broke into the Liverpool first team and spent last season on-loan at Bolton Wanderers, where he impressed new Newcastle boss and former Liverpool player Kevin Keegan.

Guthrie has signed a four year deal at St. James’ Park and is not part of a reported exchange deal for Newcastle winger James Milner.

Guthrie told the official Newcastle United web site, “I’m happy to be joining Newcastle - I cannot wait to meet the boys and get started.”
