Martin joins loan crew
Written by Matt Ladson on August 4th, 2008

Reserve team goalkeeper David Martin has joined Leicester City, becoming the seventh player to be loaned out for the forthcoming 2008-09 season.

Martin joins up with Reds team-mate Jack Hobbs - who joined the Foxes for the season earlier this month - at the League One side, on a 6 month loan deal.

Defender Hobbs spent the second half of last season on loan at Scunthorpe United having made a handful of appearances in the first team.

Hobbs and Martin are likely to line up against some familiar faces in League One, with academy graduate Robbie Threlfall spending 6 months at Hereford United and defender Godwin Antwi at locals Tranmere Rovers for the full season.

A division higher in the Championship, winger Paul Anderson has joined Nottingham Forest for the season, having turned down Swansea - who he gained promotion with last season, and midfielder Adam Hammill is on a six month loan to Blackpool - he spent last season at Southampton.

Also out on loan is the Bulgarian goalkeeper signed last summer, Nikolay Mihaylov, who has failed to gain a work permit. He was loaned to FC Twente last season, a move which was extended to the end of the 08-09 campaign. Twente are now managed by former England boss Steve McClaren.

Sebastien LetoMeanwhile, Liverpool have had a work permit application for Argentinian winger Sebastien Leto turned down for the second summer in succession. The 21 year old winger is now expected to be loaned out also, with Rafa Benitez claming 8 to 10 clubs from Spain, Italy and Greece showing interest. Benitez believes Leto still has a future at Anfield; “He has a long contract, and I think he can impress and next year will be a different situation.”
