Johnson injury latest

Liverpool expect Glen Johnson to make a quick return to action after an Achilles injury kept him out of last night’s 1-0 defeat to Rapid Vienna in Austria.

Johnson was expected to make his second appearance for the club since his £17.5million move from Portsmouth earlier this summer, but manager Rafa Benitez was forced to be without the 24-year-old England international.

“He has a small problem with his Achilles tendon but it’s nothing serious. Him not playing was a precaution,” confirmed Benitez.

Johnson flew with the rest of the squad from Vienna to Bangkok, where they face Thailand on Wednesday afternoon. [Match Preview]
