Exciting young winger Paul Anderson signed for Liverpool in January 2006 after good performances during his extended loan from Hull City. The deal saw John Welsh move the other way and also includes a fee of up to £1 million depending on first team appearances.
Paul signed for Hull City, the club of his father, after previously being rejected by West Brom and soon caught the eye of Liverpool scouts playing for the academy side. He was given an extended trial in which he impressed with strong games for both the under 18’s and the reserves and signed a permanent deal on 1st January 2006.
Anderson quickly became an important member of the youth squad that went onto win the FA Youth Cup in 2006. His great form earned him a call up to the first team and he was an unused in the Champions League 2nd leg game against Benfica. In the 2006 off season Paul was given a chance in the friendly
against Wrexham in which he made an immediate impact scoring a well taken volley from a Riise cross.
Anderson has played consistently well for the reserves so far this season and he is one of the players Rafa Benitez believes will be challenging for first team places in the near future. Big things are expected from Anderson and he may well help to answer the problems of recent year in the right wing position.
