Ukranian international forward Andriy Voronin was officially confirmed as a Liverpool player on July 6th, after he had agreed a free transfer move from Bayer Leverkusen on 26 February 2007.

On his arrival Rafa Benitez said “He is a player with pace and with good movement. He plays between the lines, between defenders. He is a good worker also, and he scores goals.”

He impressed in pre-season, particularly with a great strike against Toulouse in a Champions League qualifier, a goal which promised much. He followed that up with goals against Sunderland, Derby and Tottenham by early October but from there it all went downhill for the pony-tailed forward.

He broke his ankle in training and failed to establish himself after that, and on the brief sub appearances he did make he hardly impressed. Despite this though he was included in Rafa Benitez‘s pre-season of 2008, scoring three goals, but on the final day of the summer transfer window he returned to Germany with Hertha Berlin on a season loan. He went on to score 11 goals in 26 games for Hertha.

He returned to Anfield last summer but again has failed to inspire in the few appearances he has made, particularly away to Lyon in the Champions League.

Voronin left Liverpool having made 33 appearances for the club, scoring 6 goals.
