Real back out of Alonso chase

Real Madrid look set to chance their entire transfer kitty on Brazilian midfielder Kaka in a world record £56million deal from AC Milan, ending speculation that they are preparing a £20million bid for Liverpool’s Xabi Alonso.

After manager Carlo Ancelotti’s departure from Milan for Chelsea on Monday, the Italian side are looking to set to lose their biggest star, who almost signed for Manchester City in January.

Reports suggested that Kaka had been offered £500,000 a week to play at Eastlands and it is understood that Real would no longer have the funds to buy Alonso if the Kaka deal goes through.

Furthermore, last night new Real Madrid president Florentino Perez denied any approach to Liverpool had been made.

He told Spanish football pundit Guillem Balague, “We have not yet planned our approach for next season. We will have a look at things over the next few days but anything is possible in this world.”

Man City‘s purchase of long-term Reds transfer target Gareth Barry yesterday may also trigger any indecisions the Spanish midfielder has on his Anfield future.

Chelsea are also thought to be interested in signing Kaka. Milan’s vice-president Adriano Galliani confirmed, “We have had requests for Kaka and Pato from two of Europe’s biggest clubs and we will try and resist but there is an uneven playing field.”

Should Real spend their cash on Kaka, it would leave them only a player swap option to offer Rafa Benitez for Alonso’s services. Argentine striker Ezequiel Lavezzi and defender Gabriel Heinze are names that have been mentioned.
