Andrea Dossena was signed for around £7 million in July 2008 as a replacement for the outgoing John Arne Riise. The Italian is a left back known for his aggressive, attacking style. He will wear the number 2 shirt last worn by Alvaro Arbeloa.
Before signing for Liverpool he had previously played for Hellas Verona, Treviso and Udinese. To date, he has a single cap for the Italian national side, featuring in a friendly against South Africa. He was, however, overlooked for Italian squad for Euro 2008.
He made his debut on the opening day of the 08/09 season at Sunderland. Dossena scored his first goal for the club in the emphatic 4-0 win over Real Madrid at Anfield on March 10th, 2009.
He struggled to settle on Merseyside and hold down a place in the Reds 11, leading to much speculation linking him with a return to Italy in summer 2009. This lead to his number 2 shirt being awarded to new signing Glen Johnson.
Having failed to finalise a move to Napoli, despite a fee being agreed between the two clubs, Dossena was given the number 38 shirt in August 2009.
Dossena made his return to Italy in the January transfer window 2010, joining Napoli for around £3.6m.
