Where? Stamford Bridge
Recent league form:
Reds: Win 1-0 vs Spurs, lost 0-1 @ Manchester United, draw 1-1 vs Birmingham
Two nil-nil draws in the Champions League sandwich a 4-1 loss in October when Chelsea went to town on the Reds. Lampard struck first at Anfield, but Gerrard equalized shortly after. However, Cole, Duff, and Geremi would go on to net to give the Blues a comprehensive win.
In last season’s corresponding fixture, Chelsea won 1-0 thanks to a Joe Cole goal.
One to watch:
Reds: Who else? Robbie Fowler should be raring to go in this match and could be in line for his first start under Rafa. He’s one goal away from being on even terms with Kenny Dalglish in the record books.
Chelsea: Lampard – the midfield man for the Blues has a knack of scoring goals in the Premiership (Reina should be on the alert for deflections).
“It is between the three teams [Liverpool, Manchester Utd, and Chelsea] but it is all in our own hands and it is totally down to us.”
–Chelsea skipper John Terry on the title race.
“I wouldn’t say they have got under our skin because we do focus on ourselves, but there were things said before the last Champions League game we weren’t happy with.”
-Frank Lampard on comments made by Liverpool players before the last meeting in December.
“You look at Steven and what he has done for us this season, to have scored 17 goals for Liverpool, that is just fantastic.”
-The Boss on Steven Gerrard’s contribution to the scoresheet this season.
