Reina and Gerrard amongst awards

Liverpool goalkeeper Jose Reina and captain Steven Gerrard have both picked up awards from the Premiership sponsors Barclays.

Reina was given the ‘˜Golden Gloves’ award for keeping more clean sheets than any other Premiership goalkeeper. Reina kept a total of 20 clean sheets, two more than Manchester United’s Edwin van der Sar.

Announcing the awards, Barclays sponsorship director Matt Appleby said, “To win the Golden Glove in his first Premiership campaign, and at such a young age, shows Jose Reina’s potential. He has used this season as a springboard onto the international scene and has seen off the challenge of some world-class players to keep the most clean sheets.

“Reina has been part of an outstanding Liverpool defence that will surely build on their success to make a serious challenge for the title.”

Meanwhile Steven Gerrard was awarded the Barclay’s Premiership Player of the Month award for April for his outstanding performances. Appleby continued, “Steven Gerrard has also had a great season, hitting the peak of his form in April. Both are deserved Barclays Award winners.”

Congratulations Pepe and Stevie.
