Papa Reina watches on

Liverpool keeper Pepe Reina says he will be spurred on by his father’s presence in the stadium tonight as the Reds take on Athletico Madrid in the Champions League.

After taking maximum points from their opening two games in the European campaign so far this season, Rafael Benitez’s men face their toughest challenge yet, with Liverpool large Spanish contingent returning to their homeland’s capital.

Reina’s father will be in the stands watching on and Reina says he will be lifted by his presence. He says, “It’s not usual for him to come to games as he gets very nervous and it’s better for his health if he stays at home.

“But this place [Atletico] feels like home to him and as it’s not too far from where he lives, it’s great that he is going to be here. He was a goalkeeper so he knows exactly the kind of things I am going through during a game.”
