Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has hailed last night’s performance in which the Reds tore apart Real Madrid 4-0 at Anfield as ‘œawesome’.
The Reds built upon a first leg 1-0 with a stunning performance that sees them emphatically through to the Champions League quarter-finals and inflicted Real’s worst ever Champions League result.
Gerrard, who scored twice, was delighted after the game.
“We got the job done in the first 30 minutes tonight when I thought we were awesome,” he said.
“The second half was about seeing it out and fortunately we were able to score a couple more goals.
“We’re all really pleased. It was important to win and book our place in the last eight. It was a fantastic team performance tonight.”
The draw for the quarter-finals of the competition is next Friday, 20th March.
