Skrtel rues costly draws

Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel has looked back on the season with a disappointment that the Reds drew too many games, despite getting near-perfect results against the top four.

The Reds beat Manchester United and Chelsea home and away, and drew with Arsenal at the Emirates and Anfield, and although they only lost twice all season, disappointing draws have cost Rafa Benitez’s men the title.

Skrtel says, “We will most likely finish second but I am convinced we could have finished higher.

“Why? Because in the games against Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal we have not been beaten, and the first two teams mentioned we beat home and away. If there was a table of the teams from the top four, I think we would have been in first place.

“Unfortunately, we dropped too many points against teams from the lower part of the table. We did not manage to win against teams which defended with nine or 10 men.

“We must work on removing these draws. Rafa will surely think up something new to help us improve.”
