Benitez shrugs off Chelsea defeat

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez says he will not dwell on his side’s 2-0 defeat to Chelsea this afternoon and look immediately to the next game.

The Reds suffered their third league defeat of the season at Stamford Bridge but Benitez dismissed suggestions the result has ended his side’s chances of lifting the Premier League title this season.

Instead, Benitez says he is already looking ahead to the next fixture – away at Sunderland – on October 17th.

He told reporters, “Our target has to be the next game. They asked me in some interviews about three defeats this year, but it’s important to keep calm, keep working hard to improve.

“We have to focus on the next game, get three points and see what happens.

“This year the top sides will lose points against other teams, so we just have to try to win every week.

“We will try to win against Sunderland and see. It’s a long race and we have to think about the next game, that’s it.”
