Video: The tale of the Spion Kop

Last night following the BBC’s coverage of the Spain – Portugal match, former Liverpool defender and BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson retraced the roots of how the world famous ‘Spion Kop‘ became just that.

Lawrenson explains how the Battle of the Spion Kop during the Boer War in South Africa in 1900, where hundreds of English – particularly Lancashire based – soldiers lost their lives, and inspired the name of Anfield’s most famous stand in 1906.
