Keeper Jones joins Liverpool

Liverpool have signed Middlesbrough goalkeeper Brad Jones for £2.3m.

The 28 year old Australian, who qualifies as a homegrown player in the new Premier League squad quota, passed a medical on Monday and will sign a three year contract after agreeing personal terms with the club.

Jones was included in Australia’s squad for the World Cup but withdrew after his son was diagnosed with leukemia.

Jones signed for Boro as a youth player in 1999, hence his qualification as a homegrown player, and has made 76 appearances for the North East side.

He is expected to provide back-up to Pepe Reina and could spell the end of Diego Cavalieri’s Liverpool career. The Brazilian stopper was linked with a return to South America earlier in the year.
