Tuesday’s International Reds Round-Up

aggerDenmark 2-1 Finland
Daniel Agger scored on Tuesday evening helping Denmark defeat Finland 2-1 in a friendly in Esbjerg, their second victory in four days. With Denmark a goal down, Daniel Agger equalised in the 57th minute before Bendtner finished a fine counter attacking move to net the winning goal two minutes later.

Germany 3-0 Netherland
Meanwhile, Germany outclassed the Netherlands 3-0 in an international friendly on Tuesday evening with Dirk Kuyt playing the first 88th minutes for the Dutch team.

Italy 0-1 Uruguay
Sebastian Coates played the second half of Uruguay’s 1-0 win over Italy in Rome. Fernandez scored the only goal of the game for Uruguay after just three minutes and the Copa America champions held on to extend their unbeaten run to 13 games. As expected, Luis Suarez was an unused substitute.

downingEngland 1-0 Sweden
Stewart Downing helped England complete an unbeaten 2011 in satisfactory style by recording a 1-0 victory over Sweden at Wembley.

The industrious Downing played the entire 90 minutes and was involved in England’s goal on 23 minutes when his cross was attacked by Barry in the box who got the the faintest of touches before ricocheting off Celtic defender Daniel Majstorovic and past Isaksson… Glen Johnson was an unused sub for England.

Gerrard: “Suarez has been a real eye opener…”

In other news today, this week’s official LFC Magazine went on sale yesterday with an exclusive interview with Steven Gerrard where he believes Suarez has the potential to be one of the best in the World…

“To see Luis day in, day out has been a real eye-opener for me,” he exclusively told LFC magazine this week. “I knew he was a good player. Having worked with him on a regular basis I think he has the potential to be one of the best in the world.”

Gerrard also praised Kenny with his strength in squad depth…

“I think the squad is looking stronger, probably the strongest we’ve had for a long time. Now it’s all about delivering. The tools are all there, now we need to work hard, focus on each game and try to build on what we’ve shown over the last 20 or so games.”

Brazilian Midfielder Lucas Rodriques

Meanwhile, ESPN have linked Liverpool to Brazilian star Lucas Rodriques. The 19 year old attacking midfielder was voted best player in the South American Under-20 Championships this year.

Despite having a contract running to 2016, ESPN have reported that both Liverpool and Manchester United have “scouted the 19-year-old extensively” with “both Premier League giants willing to test Sao Paulo’s resolve” as they expect to face competition from Inter Milan and Juventus for Rodrigues’ signature.

carragher1Carragher fit to face Chelsea

Meanwhile, Liverpool’s first team coach, Steve Clarke has revealed Jamie Carragher is back in line to face Chelsea this weekend after recovering from injury. Carragher has missed our last 2 games including our win against West Brom followed by the goalless draw at Swansea due to a calf problem.

“Jamie has joined in training over the last couple of days and looked good,” first-team coach Steve Clarke told liverpoolfc.tv. He was out for a couple of weeks with a minor calf injury.

“We just made sure he took his time, recovered from it, and he’s trained well these past couple of days. He’ll be in contention for the weekend if there are no mishaps between now and the game.”
