19 year old Liverpool defender Andre Wisdom has been named in the England under 21’s squad, alongside three other young Reds after impressive Betfair Premier League performances.

Wisdom, who made his full league debut against Norwich at the weekend, joins Raheem Sterling, Jonjo Shelvey and Jordan Henderson in Stuart Pearce’s squad.

Earlier this week Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers praised Wisdom. “When I came Andre had been at centre-half but he has the physical and technical capacity to play full-back,” he said.

“The modern day full-back has a lot of the ball and has to have strength, pace and power – well Andre has that.”

It is also Sterling’s first call-up for the under 21’s – having been promoted to the full squad by Roy Hodgson last month.

Pearce said “For Raheem, to have an insight into the senior team, is fantastic,” said Pearce. “He’s been in our development squads and has done extremely well for Liverpool, and credit to Brendan [Rodgers] who has given him his chance. We are pleased to have him. “
