Match Summary
Liverpool have been dumped out of the League Cup at the fourth round stage after Brendan Rodgers’ former club Swansea comprehensively beat the Reds 3-1 at Anfield on Wednesday night.

A makeshift Reds side were undone by Swansea’s professional and confident attitude to the game. An optimistic Liverpool fan would suggest that the visitors’ way of playing Liverpool off the park was a product of Rodgers’ legacy at the South Wales side.

But it was conceding in the first half from a corner that set Liverpool on the back foot and charging forward for an equaliser.

Even the half-time introduction of Luis Suarez and Steven Gerrard, followed shortly after by Raheem Sterling could not mount a credible spell of chances for the home side.

Swansea’s other two goals came from swift counter attacks as Liverpool naively pressed up field, either side of a Suarez consolation goal.

The result puts the Cup holders out at an unpretty stage, and to a team riding above them in the league. More questions will be asked about Liverpool’s form and progress, with Newcastle Utd the visitors at Anfield on Sunday in a must-win league game.
