Liverpool scouts to watch French defender – £6m bid imminent?

Liverpool have sent their top scouts to watch Toulouse defender Aymen Abdennour in action in Ligue 1 this weekend, according to reports in both the Daily Mail and Mirror today (Saturday).

The Reds could be set to table a £6million bid to bring the Tunisian international to Anfield as Brendan Rodgers looks to rebuild his defence.

Rodgers will lose Jamie Carragher, who retires at the end of the season, and speculation is abound that Martin Skrtel’s days on Merseyside are numbered.

Abdennour plays centre-back, and has show versatility in adapting to left-back for Toulouse.

The Daily Mail go on to report:

Liverpool want two defenders with Douglas of FC Twente also on their list. Marseille defender Nicolas N’Koulou has also been mentioned at Anfield but could prove too expensive at £15million.

Whilst the Mirror suggest that Abdennour could be keen on a move to the Reds, with the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City and Barcelona all interested as well.

Barcelona have also looked at Abdennour to help shore up their leaky defence, but he is interested in the Premier League and hopes to convince Liverpool he is their man this weekend.

23-year-old Abdennour would make a great central defensive partner for Daniel Agger, providing strength and height at 6ft 2inches.

He has made 26 appearances for the Tunisian national team and has previously spent time at German Bundesliga side Werder Bremen.

If you fancy a bit of scouting yourself, Toulouse are in action away to Marseille on Saturday afternoon at 5pm.
