Reds in business as depth and quality is targeted

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers says he is looking to increase the depth and overall quality of his squad when the transfer market reopens this summer.

The Northern Irishman has lead the Reds to a higher points total than last season’s final finish in the league, with three games still left to play.

But he admits there are still adjustments that need to be done to push Liverpool up to the next level.

“I just think we need a bit more depth and a bit more quality. The players this year have done very well. I have asked everything of them and, in the main, they have done very well,” he told Sky Sports.

Rodgers says he has the club owner’s backing for his search in the transfer market this summer, with several names already being linked with moves to Anfield.

“The majority of the time there have not been too many performances where I have been really disappointed. The club respect where we need to strengthen and where we need to improve.

“We have seen from the last window in January, we got our business done early and brought in two outstanding players in Sturridge and Coutinho. Hopefully we will have a similar impact in the summer. If we can do that, that will make me really happy with the group going forward.”

Rodgers made mid-season purchases to bolster his attacking options, bringing in Daniel Sturridge from Chelsea and Philippe Coutinho from Inter Milan.
