Former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez signed Reina to Napoli on a season-long loan deal last summer when Brendan Rodgers replaced him with Simon Mignolet at Liverpool.

Despite an underwhelming league campaign, Napoli won the Coppa Italia last weekend, defeating Fiorentina 3-1 in the final.

After a season on uncertainty about his future, now Napoli Sports Director Riccardo Bigon says he hopes to sign Reina permanently from Liverpool.

“Reina is a very important player both on the field and off,” Bigon told +N tv, with quotes translated by Sky Sports.

“At the end of the season we will talk with him and Liverpool, we are interested to hold him here.

“He has been fine in Naples, he has a very close relationship with the coach (Rafa Benitez) and also his family has settled very well.”

Reina spent eight seasons at Liverpool, accumulating 395 appearances and winning the FA Cup in 2006 and League Cup in 2012.
