Liverpool to submit valuation ahead of Danny Ings tribunal

With a fee still not set following Danny Ings‘ move from Burnley to Liverpool, both clubs have been asked to submit their valuation.

Ings joined the Reds on the expiry of his contract with the Clarets this summer, but as he was under 24, his former club are owed compensation for their role in his development.

This will be determined by an independent tribunal in the new year, and as the Guardian report this week, they will consider both club’s valuation of the striker before making a decision.

Liverpool were said to have valued Ings at £6 million when working to initially broker a deal over the summer.

But Burnley asked for closer to £10 million, while Tottenham Hotspur’s bid of £12 million could play a factor in their valuation.

Crucially, however, the tribunal must base their decision only on Ings’ output prior to the move.

This means that his England debut, as well as goals against the likes of Everton and Norwich City, will not be considered—and puts Liverpool in a favourable position.

Though Ings’ season was cruelly derailed by an ACL injury suffered in training at the beginning of October, Liverpool will be aware that they possess a talent worthy of Jurgen Klopp‘s squad.

The step up from Burnley this summer was a considerable one, but Ings has negotiated this commendably.

The 23-year-old was one of Brendan Rodgers’ best players in the last months of his reign, with his work rate, technical quality and finishing ability making him a key feature in attack.

He could go on to play a regular role under Klopp, who champions honesty and determination on the field.

But the tribunal must consider Ings merely as an 11-goal, 35-game Premier League striker, based on his only season in the Premier League in 2014/15, and this could play into Liverpool’s hands in 2016.
