Liverpool’s pre-season campaign continues to take shape with confirmation of a fixture in Dublin against Athletic Club.
Liverpool FC has confirmed that Jurgen Klopp’s men will head to Dublin this summer as part of their pre-season preparations.
As expected earlier in the week, the Reds will now go head-to-head with La Liga side Athletic on August 5, with the match kicking off at 5.15pm at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland.
This will be the first time the teams have met since the European Cup campaign of 1983/84, which saw Liverpool go on to lift the trophy for the fourth time in Rome.
The game with Los Leones will be held at the Aviva Stadium, where the Reds last played three years ago when they defeated Shamrock Rovers 4-0, having also played Celtic at the same stadium in a pre-season fixture ahead of the 13/14 campaign.
Liverpool FC Ambassador Ian Rush scored the goal against Athletic Club last time they met in 1983. He said: “They put up a great fight that night but I was delighted that goal meant we could go on to win the Cup.
“We always get such an amazing reception in Dublin. Even though this is a friendly game, I’m sure our incredible Irish fans will make the atmosphere just as good when we meet Athletic Club this time around.”
Ticket pre-sales will begin Wednesday, 31st May at 11am until Thursday 1st June at midnight.
The Reds have further games to look forward to this summer in the Asia Trophy against two from West Brom, Crystal Palace and Leicester, and the Audi Cup in Munich, where Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid and AC Milan will also compete.
Hertha Berlin are also summer opponents to mark both clubs’ 125th anniversary.
