With Liverpool’s 2016/17 campaign now at a close, some of This is Anfield’s writers joined forces for the Anfield Index’s end-of-season podcast review.

Listen to the podcast:

The Reds experienced an up-and-down but ultimately successful year, with the main aim of Champions League football secured on the final day.

It was a shame that Liverpool couldn’t mount a genuine title challenge, having shone so bright in the early months of the season, but injuries and a loss of form in January scuppered that.

Discussing all things Liverpool on Anfield Index’s ‘Runner’ podcast were TIA regulars Henry Jackson, Karl Matchett and host Sachin Nakrani.

The first topic of conversation was whether 2016/17 can be viewed as a positive season at Anfield, with everyone in agreement that it could, despite not being perfect.

The lads then worked their way chronologically through the season, speaking about the highs of winning at Arsenal, Chelsea and Everton before Christmas, but also the crushing low that was January.

Certain individuals also cropped in conversation, with Simon Mignolet‘s form, Philippe Coutinho‘s future, Jordan Henderson‘s injuries and Divock Origi‘s potential all discussed.

Having dissected the final few months of the campaign, the final topic on the agenda were the trio’s end-of-season award, with Player of the Year, most disappointing player, best goal and best moment allowing for an array of answers.

From talk of which Liverpool players you’d take on a lads holiday, to somehow finishing the podcast mentioning Iago Aspas, this is a good listen for anyone of a Reds persuasion.
