Liverpool kicked off the new Premier League season in style, romping to a 4-0 victory against West Ham on Sunday. Here are the best photos from Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp and his players will all have wanted to get the league campaign off to a flying start, and the Reds did that with a dominant display.
Anfield looked spectacular pre-match, with some fantastic new flags on display…
Klopp’s selection was eagerly awaited and the boss handed Premier League debuts to Alisson and Naby Keita—the 25th and 26th debutants of the manager’s reign respectively.
The Reds dominated from the off and Keita was at the centre of it, heavily involved throughout and immediately catching the eye.
Liverpool soon took a deserved lead, with Mohamed Salah taking just 19 minutes to open his account for the season finishing from Andy Robertson’s cross.
Things got even better before half-time, as James Milner cutback for Sadio Mane to turn home and become the first Red to score in three consecutive Premier League opening-day games.
Mane was in fine form and loving every minute, and he completed his brace after the restart with smart finish on the spin making it 3-0.
It was one-way traffic as the Reds controlled proceedings and Klopp took the chance to make changes—including introducing Xherdan Shaqiri for his competitive debut late on.
Daniel Sturridge also came on and he made the perfect impact, scoring with his first touch two minutes from time to wrap up a landmark 500th Premier League win for the Reds.
It’s fantastic to get off to a winning start, with Klopp’s side full of belief and immediately signalling their intentions to rivals for the campaign ahead.
The squad now enjoy a full week to recover before looking to make it two wins from two against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park next Monday night.
