Liverpool got back to winning ways thanks to Mohamed Salah‘s penalty and fans were simply delighted to rediscover form against Brighton.
Brighton 0-1 Liverpool
Premier League, AMEX Stadium
January 12, 2018
Goals: Salah pen 50′
The Reds were suffering with a handful of absences, but getting back on track in the Premier League was the only outcome worth thinking about after back-to-back league and cup defeats.
Jurgen Klopp‘s team dominated long stretches but found it hard to break down a very organised and resolute Brighton side.
Mohamed Salah won and converted a penalty early in the second half to put the Reds ahead and they saw out the game with customary conviction to, temporarily at least, stretch their lead at the top.
It’s a seven-point lead once more for the Reds and a return of confidence was apparent among supporters after the whistle.
Liverpool dominated possession, but fans were critical of a lack of one-dimensional play, particularly through midfield, as the Reds struggled to break down Brighton
Frustrating half for #LFC and that frustration was starting to tell. Brighton have been very impressive in keeping their shape and getting back quickly when they lose the ball.

Poor from Henderson so far – over hit balls, failure to open his body to the space behind, happy to play the way he's facing with better options on around him. Needs to raise his level to help break down a well disciplined Brighton. #BRILIV

“About time Keita came in those active runs he makes, make the creative difference whether he loses the ball or not. Front is still starving thanks to the middle of the field.” – Joseph Nugi on Facebook.
“Arguably this is made for Keita. Get him in there to dribble past a player in the final third and open it up.” – Red over the water on the forums.
Don’t know whether it’s position of Locadia that’s effecting attacking role of TAA but he hasn’t been advanced early enough when Van Dijk has looked for the big switch

Salah won and scored the penalty to put the Reds ahead and fans praised the forward’s all-round efforts
Mo Salah 30 go ahead or equalisers for Liverpool

Great 2nd half from Salah. Took the game by the scruff of the neck, dropping deep at times to link play and start attacking moves. Scared the life out of their defenders whenever he ran at them. And of course, produces the match-defining moment.

“Glad we have Salah! What a player he has been!” – RC Subedi on Facebook.
“Salah made all the difference, but the standout man was Robertson, who was colossal throughout.” – Red Armada on the forums.
Fabinho, out of position at centre-back, largely impressed as the Reds kept another clean sheet
“Fabinho was boss at CB. It could end up being his best position.” – Connor Gorman on Facebook.
That's the beauty of having a defence you can rely on to keep a clean sheet. Van Dijk and Fabinho imperious at the back.

What a player Fabinho is. Been superb as a holding mid but just as good today at center back. Looking like a bargain at 40m

“I thought Fabinho was excellent today played out of position but didn’t look out of position.” – 20ATHLONE on the forums.
And finally, the all-important return to winning ways had everyone buzzing—even if the performance didn’t hit top gear
Massive, massive victory. Needed to win in any way possible. Dug in against a very organised team – perfect response to City defeat. Salah the jewel yet again. 17 now for the one-season wonder. #LFCdigest

“I don’t care how we win, we can be the most boring team in the world and I wouldn’t give a f*ck, I want that EPL title!” – Sean Newton on Facebook.
“These drab 1-0s wins you leagues” – Walshy07 on the forums.
Striking back with another 3 points away for Liverpool. Secure at the top of the table with another clean sheet. pic.twitter.com/IM3lFtOazC
