Liverpool confirm change of date for away trip to Newcastle

Liverpool have confirmed that their Premier League fixture at Newcastle United has been subject to a date change and will now take place on Saturday, May 4.

The Reds were due to face the Magpies on the Sunday, but their progression into the Champions League semi-finals made that implausible.

Liverpool face the second leg against Barcelona on Tuesday, May 7, forcing the switch of dates for the league encounter.

The club have confirmed that the kick-off time has not yet been decided, but Jurgen Klopp has expressed his desire for it to be an evening kick off.

Liverpool play at the Nou Camp on the Wednesday before the trip to the north-east on the Saturday, so Klopp is keen to avoid the early kick-off slot.

“It would be important if we could play Newcastle in the late game on the Saturday and not the 12.30pm kick-off,” said the boss on Friday.

The trip to St. James’ Park to face Rafa Benitez’s side comes in between the two legs against the current table-toppers in LaLiga and is Liverpool’s penultimate Premier League fixture for this season.

It leaves the remaining games for the Reds looking as follows:

Should the Reds progress past Barcelona, the Champions League final would take place on June 1 against either Ajax or Tottenham.
