England call up three Liverpool players for October – as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain drops out

3 October 2019

Gareth Southgate has named Trent Alexander-Arnold among three Liverpool players in his England squad to play the Czech Republic and Bulgaria this month.

The Three Lions take on the Czech Republic in Prague on October 11, before heading to Sofia to facw Bulgaria on October 14 as their Euro 2020 qualifiers continue.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was part of the squad for the September break, but has been omitted after making just two starts for Liverpool since his return from duty.

One of those came in the League Cup third round, as the 26-year-old builds his way back to full fitness slowly, and in doing so he has struggled to regain his first-choice spot for the Reds.

Fabian Delph is included instead, joining Jordan Henderson among the midfield ranks, while Alexander-Arnold’s defensive colleague Joe Gomez also received another call-up.

Adam Lallana has been overlooked again, with the midfielder’s England career likely over as long as he stays in his peripheral role on Merseyside.

Chelsea youngster Fikayo Tomori has been named in the squad for the first time, with Southgate clearly promoting youth as the likes of Ben Chilwell, Mason Mount, Declan Rice, Harry Winks, Jadon Sancho and Tammy Abraham also feature.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Jesse Lingard have been omitted, while Dele Alli has failed to reclaim his place after injury.

England Squad vs. Czech Republic & Bulgaria

Defenders: Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Chilwell, Keane, Maguire, Mings, Rose, Trippier, Tomori

Midfielders: Henderson, Barkley, Maddison, Delph, Mount, Rice, Winks

Forwards: Kane, Sancho, Rashford, Sterling, Wilson, Abraham
