Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez says his players will need to step up a gear and start creating more chances in front of goal in tonight’s Premier League clash with Stoke City at Anfield.
After the opening day 2-1 defeat to Tottenham at White Hart Lane on Snday, the Reds’ first home game of the season sees them take on Tony Pulis’ men who frustrated Liverpool by holding them to two goalless draws ‘“ home and away ‘“ last season.
And Benitez says he expects another tough challenge tonight, but one he hopes his players can rise to, despite Sunday’s loss.
“It was only the first game of the season and there are still lots of games to play. We have to be calm and do our job.
“We know the Stoke game will be tough and difficult, but we have to create our chances and take them. These kind of games can change with one opportunity if you score.
“We know we have to play better and will be in front of our fans, and they know the only way we can improve is by helping to support the team.
“We want to create the chances we did against Stoke last year and this time take them. To create 20 chances in a game has to be enough.”
Liverpool vs Stoke City gets underway at 8pm tonight. Stay tuned to This Is Anfield for the rest of the day for the latest teams news.
