Does Andy Carroll still have a future at Liverpool?

Reports today claim Andy Carroll could yet have a future at Liverpool under manager Brendan Rodgers.

carroll_subThe England forward, the club’s record signing, is on loan to West Ham United for the season and had been widely expected to make a permanent move away from Anfield this summer.

However, The Mirror claim Rodgers “is ready to offer Andy Carroll a way back in at Anfield – as a squad member”.

The report suggests Carroll would need to accept he would not be first choice and that a specific training regime would be designed with the aim of improving the forward’s mobility.

Whether the report has any basis, or if indeed it is merely a clever ploy from Liverpool to ensure they get the highest available price for the £35m man this summer, remains to be seen.

The Liverpool Daily Post, who claim West Ham and Newcastle remain interested in signing Carroll, had a slightly different spin on the same story, saying:

Carroll will be informed the situation remains unchanged on his return – his first-team opportunities further threatened by the January arrival of Daniel Sturridge – but that he is welcome to stay and fight for his place.
