Reports today claim Andy Carroll could yet have a future at Liverpool under manager Brendan Rodgers.
The England forward, the club’s record signing, is on loan to West Ham United for the season and had been widely expected to make a permanent move away from Anfield this summer.
However, The Mirror claim Rodgers “is ready to offer Andy Carroll a way back in at Anfield – as a squad member”.
The report suggests Carroll would need to accept he would not be first choice and that a specific training regime would be designed with the aim of improving the forward’s mobility.
Whether the report has any basis, or if indeed it is merely a clever ploy from Liverpool to ensure they get the highest available price for the £35m man this summer, remains to be seen.
The Liverpool Daily Post, who claim West Ham and Newcastle remain interested in signing Carroll, had a slightly different spin on the same story, saying:
Carroll will be informed the situation remains unchanged on his return – his first-team opportunities further threatened by the January arrival of Daniel Sturridge – but that he is welcome to stay and fight for his place.
Here’s a sample of some of the views of Liverpool fans on our twitter feed today:
@thisisanfield I would keep Andy Carroll,he could give the front line a bit of presence and defenders don’t like playing against him

@thisisanfield I think he deserves a chance,Danny Graham did well under BR at Swansea & he is a big guy. Andy Carroll could be a good asset.

@thisisanfield merely an attempt to raise his value in the transfer window after a terrible campaign this season.

@thisisanfield I hope they are true, an impact sub like Andy Carroll is exactly what we need for when Suarez and Sturridge arent scoring!
