Kostas Tsimikas reveals new tattoo for Diogo Jota

The tragic passing of Diogo Jota has left the Liverpool squad in mourning, with Kostas Tsimikas now revealing a new tattoo in tribute to his teammate.

While Liverpool have returned to near-normal activity and are currently on a pre-season tour of Hong Kong and Japan, Jota has not been forgotten.

The club have limited public and media engagements while in the Far East, with it not deemed appropriate to follow their usual busy schedule as players and staff adjust to life without their friend and colleague.

Jota’s impact on his teammates is clear, both on and off the pitch, and Tsimikas has marked his life and sad death with a permanent tribute of his own.

A new tattoo on the defender’s left hand reads: “Wish you were here.”

Alongside those words are Jota’s No. 20 and the initials of Tsimikas’ agent Andreas Kyriakopoulos, who also recently passed away.

Tsimikas could be seen showing the tattoo to Dominik Szoboszlai, Federico Chiesa and Mohamed Salah upon Liverpool’s return to friendly action against Preston earlier this month.

It shows the closeness within the Liverpool squad and not least between Jota and his teammates, with the many tributes to the Portuguese emphasising his character and qualities as a person more than as a player.

Liverpool have retired the No. 20 shirt in honour of Jota, while tributes have been made by the striker’s other clubs along with those of brother Andre Silva, who also passed away in the car crash on July 3.

A friendly between Porto and Atletico Madrid on August 3 will be held in honour of the pair; both Diogo and Andre represented Porto during their career and Jota also spent two years at Atletico.

Wolves have announced plans for a permanent memorial for the brothers, along with tributes during their home friendly against Celta Vigo (August 9) and the Premier League opener against Man City (August 16).

Tuesday marked a month since Jota and childhood girlfriend Rute Cardoso were married in Porto, and his late wife shared a tribute to mark the sad anniversary.

“One month of our ‘until death do us part’,” she wrote on Instagram. “Forever, your white girl.”
