Arne Slot has underlined that Liverpool won’t hesitate in what remains of the transfer window as he explained the “homework” and due process the club undertake with their targets.
The summer transfer window closes at 7pm on Monday and Liverpool are known to be pursuing deals for Marc Guehi and Alexander Isak, with a £35 million offer rejected for the former on Saturday.
Slot has avoided any pointed mention of targets when speaking with the press, but has never wavered from his position that the club will act for the right player at the right amount.
“Things can change rapidly in football, especially the last few days of the window,” Slot told Sky Sports.
“As I always say, if we think the right player for the right amount of money is there, then we never hesitate, but that’s not the situation this [Friday] morning.”
Unlike other clubs that may panic in the window, Slot explained that while Liverpool will have a “plan B and plan C,” they will not “all of a sudden come up with a completely different target.”
“We are not a club that all of a sudden comes up with a completely different target than what we’ve thought about for three or four months,” Slot said.
“This club always finds targets and then we try to sign him. That’s what we did with Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez.
“And if these players say no, it’s not that we jump to someone else we’ve never spoken about before. Of course, we have plan B and plan C, also for Florian and Milos.
“We’ve done our homework and I’m part of that homework for months already. Then in the end, we see if we can sign them, and if not we see if we can sign them half a year or a year later.”
There had been suggestions that Liverpool could wait until January to sign Guehi before news broke of their bid on Saturday, and it remains to be seen if that will be the case if they cannot find middle ground with Crystal Palace.
Both Guehi and Isak want a move to Liverpool, and Slot had some advice for where you can find any updates, jokingly saying, “You have to check with Fabrizio Romano if you want to see transfer news.”
