Dominik Szoboszlai‘s Man of the Match performance was lauded by Liverpool fans, with his stunning strike sealing a 1-0 win at home to Arsenal.
It was a horrible game, but a moment of sheer brilliance settled the battle of Premier League title rivals.
For much of proceedings, Arsenal‘s negative approach threatened to see the game end in a stalemate, before Szoboszlai fired home a late 32-yard free-kick.
Again playing at right-back, the Hungarian proved a revelation with the most defensive contributions of any player (14), as per FotMob, and, of course, the stunning match-winning goal.
Liverpool head into the international break two points clear at the top of the table, and even six points clear of Man City.
Supporters hailed Szoboszlai on social media and in This Is Anfield‘s comments section, as well as hailing the champions’ mentality.
Liverpool had Trent's replacement in the squad all along.

Dominik Szoboszlai, btw. Unbelievable at right-back and scored the winner from about 50 yards out. pic.twitter.com/0rHLItUkpK

Szoboszlai at rightback is Slot's Gravenberch at 6 for this season. Brilliant performance. Both Hungarians defended really well.

Lovely stuff. Arteta losing with that approach is a great thing.
Szoboszlai magnificent all game in a rare role, regardless of the goal.

A huge win. 9/9 from Liverpool l's set of fixtures – all while bedding in so many players – is great.
They have a big scope to improve, performance wise, which is exciting when you consider it's August and Arsenal(H) and Newcastle (A), two of their hardest games, are banked

Can’t wax lyrical enough about what Szoboszlai has done these last two games. Genuinely outstanding at right back and has basically won us both games too (the dummy and that cracker today). Trent fucking who.

That's the best free kick goal I've ever seen from a Liverpool right-back

Szobo fantastic, Kerkez stood up brilliantly under constant pressure, rest of them grew into it in the last 30 mins. Top of the league
As for Arsenal, if they actually played more football they might have a chance. Obsessed with slowing it down, set pieces and dark arts

Szoboszlai has been a revelation at right-back, winning back-to-back Man of the Match awards, making up for the absences of Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley seamlessly.
Even forgetting the goal, which was one of the great Kop-end free-kicks, he was colossal throughout, defending resolutely and using the ball positively.
While midfield remains Szoboszlai’s best role, he is showing that he is now a genuinely strong option at right-back.
It’s now time for the internationals, with Liverpool topping the table despite being flawed in these opening three matches. Very promising signs!
