Kostas Tsimikas leaves Liverpool for loan at Roma

Kostas Tsimikas has joined Serie A side AS Roma on a season-long loan, having found himself out of the picture for a starting spot at left-back at Liverpool.

Tsimikas made 29 appearances in all competitions in Arne Slot‘s first campaign at Liverpool – his best tally in a single season – but dropped down the pecking order this summer.

With Milos Kerkez starting every game so far, the decision was made to omit the Greek entirely as interest in a transfer developed.

But despite the likes of Nottingham Forest and Valencia considering moves, Liverpool found themselves short of permanent offers for their No. 21.

Instead an agreement was reached to loan Tsimikas to Roma for the remainder of 2025/26, with the Italian side covering his wages.

Liverpool were hopeful of including an option or obligation to buy as part of the deal but instead it is a straight loan, meaning the situation will be revisited next summer.

By that point Tsimikas will have two year left on his contract, with another decision to make over a sale bar any major change of circumstances at his parent club.

He becomes the 10th Liverpool player currently out on loan, but that number is expected to increase by Monday’s 7pm transfer deadline.

The likes of Vitezslav Jaros, James McConnell, Lewis Koumas and Luca Stephenson have already departed in temporary moves, though Isaac Mabaya’s stint at Wigan is set to be cut short due to injury.

Kaide Gordon, Calvin Ramsay, Rhys Williams, Fabian Mrozek and Oakley Cannonier are others who could leave within the next 24 hours.
