Liverpool youngster Luca Stephenson has left for his third season on loan, with the versatile academy graduate signing a new contract before departing.
Stephenson’s previous deal was set to expire next summer and as such an agreement on new terms was required before sanctioning another loan.
The 21-year-old has now put pen to paper on an extension before heading back to Dundee United for the 2025/26 campaign.
His latest move comes after a successful campaign in Dundee last time out, earning the Young Player of the Season award after 34 appearances for Jim Goodwin’s side.

He can be expected to make further progress in a familiar environment at Tannadice this season before a decision is made on his future at Liverpool.
Dundee United were not the only side interested in signing Stephenson on loan, with Swansea, Cardiff, Reading and Rotherham also making contact, while Aberdeen had considered a permanent offer.
But the right-back, who can also play in midfield and at both centre-back and left-back, has opted to rejoin the Tangerines.

The deal comes after Stephenson featured four times under Arne Slot in pre-season, clocking 196 minutes on the pitch, with there clearly faith in his ability among Liverpool’s first-team staff.
With little opportunity of a regular role at Anfield though the call was made to spend another campaign on loan, with a final decision likely to be made a year from now.
Stephenson is already eligible as a homegrown player in the Premier League and that could come into consideration when Slot runs the rule over his squad ahead of 2026/27.
