Alexander Isak to continue media silence after transfer – Latest Liverpool FC News

Alexander Isak‘s media silence will continue into the international break, while Liverpool are “plotting” their next move for Marc Guehi after the deadline day collapse.

If any broadcaster or media outlet was expecting to press Isak on his summer transfer saga, they’ve been told to think again as the striker is maintaining his silence, for now at least.

Currently away on international duty with Sweden and hoping to play his first minutes in months, Isak is focused only on preparing for his side’s match against Slovenia on Friday.

The striker’s wish is not to talk to the media before then, with Sweden press manager explaining, via Fotboll Skanalen: “We have a dialogue with Alexander on this issue.

“But given the circumstances of his coming in late on Monday, it is shortly before the World Cup qualifying matches, he wants to focus on preparations and getting started properly and preparing for the matches.

“I do not guarantee that he will be available to the media at any time during this [international] period. But I do not rule out that it could be so. We take it day by day.”

While everyone wants to get the scoop, you can certainly understand Isak turning away from the awaiting cameras and microphones, many of which have scrutinised him for months.

More from This Is Anfield

Liverpool have been forced to wait for Marc Guehi, but Jack Lusby explains why it is a situation the club can afford:

“Liverpool, meanwhile, can be safe in the knowledge that Guehi wanted them and only them, and that his market value will only diminish in the months to come.

“They could feasibly return to the table in January, likely for a reduced fee, but those in the Anfield hierarchy will also be aware that, so long as they remain confident in his commitment, they could simply sign him for free next summer.

“For many, Guehi would have been seen as a luxury signing for the time being, given the quality already in Arne Slot‘s centre-back ranks.”

Liverpool FC: On this day

2D5K5GY Phil Thompson, Liverpool

On this day in 1973, the legendary Phil Thompson scored his first goal for the club in a 2-0 win over Derby County.

Though, can we first appreciate his barnet – what a look that was!

The match also saw Kevin Keegan on the scoresheet and Ray Clemence play his 200th game for Liverpool – making it quite the milestone game in club history!

Thompson was more known for keeping goals out rather than scoring them himself, but his first goal came more than a year after his debut and was one of 13 across his 13 seasons at Anfield.
