Goals: Gordon (2), Danns, Ahmed

Liverpool U21s hosted Bolton U21s in a friendly on Saturday afternoon, as they won 4-1 while fielding two 15-year-olds.

Jayden Danns was only on the pitch for 30 minutes before being brought off for summer signing Will Wright, but in that time, he set up Kaide Gordon for his opener – an excellent finish into the top corner from a tight angle – and bagged a goal of his own, cleanly finishing a low cross from Gordon.

Involved in the first goal was Erik Farkas, a technically excellent midfielder who only turned 16 years old last week.

He featured alongside Joshua Abe, who astonishingly only turned 15 years old in July. While acknowledging this was a friendly and he is more likely to play with the under-18s this season, it is still remarkable for someone so young to start for the under-21s.

At half time, Abe was brought off for Keyrol Figueroa and Farkas made way for Kareem Ahmed.

Meanwhile, Fabian Mrozek, Wellity Lucky and Terence Miles departed so Kornel Misciur, Rhys Williams and Josh Davidson could come on.

Ahmed would be the man to score Liverpool’s sole second-half strike, with the visitors eventually also getting on the scoresheet before the end.

Some of those involved in Saturday afternoon’s friendly will face Atletico Madrid U19s in the UEFA Youth League on Wednesday.

For those too old for the competition, their next fixture is against Man United U21s in Premier League 2 next Sunday.
