Liverpool ‘confident’ on Marc Guehi transfer – medical would be in London

Liverpool are reportedly now ‘confident’ of signing Marc Guehi, with a medical to take place in London should the clubs agree a deal.

Following months of speculation, Liverpool are “now confident of finalising a deal” for Guehi, report Ben Jacobs and talkSPORT’s Alex Crook.

On X, the former explained that an “agreement is expected to happen, but it’s a race against time,” before adding that the “medical will take place in London should a transfer get done.”

Sunday night saw the press briefed that a deal was ‘getting closer’, and the odds of the Reds getting Guehi in would significantly increase if Crystal Palace sign another defender.

With Toulouse centre-back Jaydee Canvot on the cusp of signing for the Eagles, and Brighton‘s Igor Julio undergoing a medical at Palace, there is hope that manager Oliver Glasner will see these acquisitions as sufficient for his team to cope this season.

In addition, Sky Sports claim that Strahinja Pavlovic is their first-choice target to replace Guehi, and they are currently working on a deal to sign the defender from AC Milan.

However, there is still a fear that the coach is not willing to part with his captain.

Liverpool previously placed a bid of £35 million plus a 10 percent sell-on clause, but Palace are pushing for £35m with an additional £5m of add-ons.

The Mail‘s Lewis Steele said on Monday lunchtime that this is still the case as chairman Steve Parish ‘digs in his heels’.

Glasner would clearly prefer to keep his captain, saying on Saturday: “We have no chance to find the right replacement in one day. We all agreed that we just sell Marc if we have the right replacement in the building.”

Crucially, though, the final decision will likely be made by chairman Parish, above Glasner’s head. It could all come down to a case of him deciding whether to gamble losing his manager or losing his captain.
