Milos Kerkez explains how he is learning from “legend” Andy Robertson

Milos Kerkez is revelling in his position being able to learn from Andy Robertson as Liverpool’s two left-backs, describing the Scot as “a legend here.”

It is clear that, following the £40 million signing of Kerkez from Bournemouth, there has been a changing of the guard at left-back.

Arne Slot has preferred the Hungarian to long-term first choice Robertson in each of Liverpool’s first four games of the campaign so far, with the latter coming off the bench twice.

Many had expected Robertson to leave in the summer transfer window, but instead he opted to stay and has been named Slot’s new vice-captain.

That role highlights the influence he holds within the squad, including when it comes to Kerkez, who is looking to learn as much as he can from one of the club’s best-ever left-backs.

“Obviously, you can say he’s a legend here already and he did a lot of amazing stuff,” Kerkez told Stadium Astro.

“For me it’s great to have someone like that and of course we are talking.

“He helps everyone, not just me, he’s the vice-captain and he’s really holding the locker room well.

“For me, I’m honoured to have someone like that next to me, so I can continue to improve in the coming years also.

“He’s going to help me in that.”

Unlike Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong, Giorgi Mamardashvili and the majority of Liverpool’s summer signings, Kerkez is an arrival straight from the Premier League.

That does not mean his adjustment has been straightforward, with the 21-year-old struggling at times in his early appearances.

He was much-improved in the 1-0 win over Arsenal last time out and looks to be settling into his new role having made light work of locking down Noni Madueke.

“It’s a couple levels above any league, you could see the intensity [against Arsenal],” Kerkez said of the Premier League.

“I think everyone was a little bit out of breath after 15 minutes already, because it was up and down.

“That’s the Premier League, it’s big games. And you need to have big lungs for this league, especially for these games.

“It’s levels above any league.”
