We may not have had a pre-match press conference from Arne Slot but Glasner has still taken the time provide us with some team news.

The manager revealed that back-up goalkeeper Walter Benitez and defender Jaydee Canvot will both start for Crystal Palace against Liverpool in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup fourth-round tie.

Canvot should be taking the place of Chris Richards who “has a little bit of an issue with his calf.”

As for the rest of the Palace team that lost 1-0 to Arsenal on Sunday, Glasner said they “are fine and recovered well.”

With regard to Liverpool team news, Curtis Jones, Alexander Isak and Ryan Gravenberch are doubts. We do know, though, that Freddie Woodman should start in goal.

Three other surprise inclusions in the squad could be youngsters Kieran Morrison, Trent Kone-Doherty and Calvin Ramsay.

Arne Slot has not given a pre-match press conference but said in his programme notes he had “not made a final decision on the squad” at the time of writing – not much of a clue on team news there then

• Former Liverpool throw-in coach Thomas Gronnemark has said he is “open to a return” – the Reds could certainly to with learning to defend them!

• According to BolaVIP‘s Ecuadorian journalist, Jose Cedeno Mendoza, Club Brugge defender Joel Ordonez is “part of Liverpool’s plans for this transfer window” – he would cost over £35m, though, says the report

Following another below-par performance at Brentford, Joanna Durkan has made the case that it is best for all parties for Milos Kerkez to be dropped:

“There is no requirement for Slot to label either Kerkez or Robertson as his first choice, as there are enough games to go around, but restoring the Scot is the right place to start for Slot.

“His vice-captain has an established relationship with Gakpo, has a second-nature partnership with Van Dijk and, crucially, can help inject progressive movement from the backline.

“The 31-year-old is not the gung-ho left-back of yesteryear, but last season he averaged 6.38 progressive passes per 90 minutes, and, as per FBref, Kerkez is averaging 4.66 this season in the Premier League.”

With Steven Gerrard given the night off by Rodgers, Jordan Henderson captained Liverpool for the first time as he led the team out in the League Cup on October 28, 2014.

The Anfield occasion finished with a 2-1 win against the manager’s former club, Swansea, as goals from Mario Balotelli and Dejan Lovren turned the tie around late on.

Henderson would go on to captain the club on 268 total occasions, putting him fifth on the list of Liverpool players with the most appearances as skipper.

Only Gerrard (470), Ron Yeats (417), Emlyn Hughes (335) and Donald McKinlay (293) are above him in that respect.
