Arne Slot has explained why he thinks Liverpool’s 3-2 defeat at Brentford is the worst of the Reds’ four consecutive Premier League losses.
While the statistics may read favourably for Liverpool, the reality is that they rarely looked likely to score against Brentford and were well beaten.
Having also lost to Crystal Palace, Chelsea and Man United in recent Premier League matches, Slot thinks the loss to Brentford is an even lower point.
Asked what is concerning him most, the head coach told TNT Sports: “You cannot compare all of them.

“What the most concerning thing is [is] that you lose four times in a row, so it’s all about the result. And then afterwards, you’ve got to judge the performance which today, in my opinion, was the worst of all the four losses we’ve had.
“And again, conceding a set-piece, not scoring one, makes it again hard for us to win a game of football.”
Pressed on why this was the worst of Liverpool’s recent domestic defeats, Slot added: “I think we didn’t do the basics right, especially the first half and during parts of the second half as well.
“I think they won more duels than us, they won more second balls than us and conceding; if you go here, you know that if you’re going to concede goals it’s not a surprise that one of them might be a set piece because this is one of their main strengths.”

While Slot is correct in his assessment of Liverpool losing out on second balls far too often, FotMob tells us his side actually won 62 duels to Brentford‘s 56.
This will be of little consolation, though, with Slot listing more things that went wrong on Saturday night.
“The [Brentford] counter-attack is also a big strength and that’s the way we conceded two goals, and for me, we were also unlucky with the penalty we conceded,” the Dutchman explained.
“After that we tried, made some substitutions and maybe if I’m completely honest, them scoring at that moment of time was more realistic than us scoring [for] 3-2.”

- SLOT: “Worst” of Liverpool’s 4 league defeats – and why
This is the first time since early 2021 that Liverpool have lost four league matches in a row. Those defeats came behind closed doors and were followed a win and two further losses.
Currently, the Reds are four points behind table-toppers Arsenal who have a game in hand.
Three points from the next three matches would surely put Slot’s side out of title contention, if that isn’t already the case given there are few signs of Liverpool emerging from their slump soon.
