Arne Slot can set a Liverpool record as manager if the Reds beat Man United, something recent history suggests they should accomplish.
Having lost their last three matches, Man United are arguably the perfect opponent to arrest the downward curve in Liverpool’s form.
Should Slot’s side avoid defeat, he will earn his 100th league point in match 46 for the club, beating Kenny Dalglish’s previous quickest record for a Liverpool manager of 48 games.
The Dutchman could have done this in two fewer games, but the Reds’ last two Premier League defeats have delayed the achievement!
Liverpool’s history with Man United
The two biggest and most successful clubs in English football meet for the 217th time in all competitions and the 185th in the league. In the 216 games played so far, both teams have scored 291 times.
This will be the 100th meeting at Anfield in all competitions, Liverpool winning 48 to Man United’s 26.
Should Liverpool avoid defeat, they will set a new club record of 10 league games unbeaten against the Red Devils at Anfield, bettering the run set in the 1970s.
Liverpool have conceded three goals in the last nine Anfield meetings, two coming last season. In the last seven on home soil, Liverpool have scored 18 times to the visitors’ three.
Man United’s woes
The goal scored by Lisandro Martinez in January 2025 was Man United‘s first league goal at Anfield in 559 minutes, since Jesse Lingard netted in a 3-1 defeat in December 2018.
They have conceded at least four goals in four of the last nine home and away league clashes. The Red Devils have won only one of the last 14 league encounters and two of the last 18.
Their clean sheet in the win over Sunderland earlier this month was their first in the eight matches played this season.
Away from Old Trafford this season, they have drawn at Fulham and lost at Manchester City and Brentford. They also lost on penalties at Grimsby in the Carabao Cup.
Man United could win successive league games for the first time under Amorim, and they have collected 37 points from 34 league games under the Portuguese coach.
