Arne Slot’s agent working on new Liverpool contract

Arne Slot is expected to sign a new Liverpool contract in the near future, with the Dutchman’s agent in the process of working on an extension to his current deal.

Slot may be enduring the worst run of results of his entire coaching career at present, but his position in charge of Liverpool is certainly not in question.

Having delivered the Premier League title in his first season, the 47-year-old’s side are currently second in the table after a summer of unprecedented change.

Liverpool are clearly prepared to back Slot and that will include a new long-term contract.

The Mail‘s Lewis Steele reports that an extension to his initial three-year deal is in the works, with the club in contact with Slot’s agent Rafaela Pimenta.

Slot signed until 2028 upon his appointment last summer with Dutch publication De Telegraaf reporting that was worth a basic wage of €8 million per year.

Given his success so far that could increase by a significant amount, with the former Feyenoord coach now widely considered one of the best in his field worldwide.

Having resolved the contract situations of Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah at the end of last season and overseen their biggest single-window spend in history, it would be no surprise if Liverpool’s focus now shifted to Slot.

Talks are also ongoing with the representatives of Ibrahima Konate while a decision will be made over Andy Robertson, with their terms expiring in 2026.

But with the squad in an otherwise stable position, tying down only their second-ever Premier League-winning coach will be a priority.

What Slot has said on staying at Liverpool

For his part Slot has given no indication that he would not wish to extend his stay at Anfield – and in fact, speaking in May, he said “if there is ever a club where you can work for multiple years, it will probably be Liverpool.”

“It is definitely true that I am working at a club where managers work for a long time,” he told the Liverpool Echo.

“It is a different time, but if there is ever a club where you can work for multiple years, it will probably be Liverpool.

“I could see [myself staying a long time], but it is kind of arrogant to say it if you have only been here a year that you will be here for nine years.

“I don’t think it will be enough if after five years I say: ‘Do remember that in my first year I won the league title’.”
