While Mo Salah mightn’t be as fast as he used to be across the turf, he has still recorded one of the quickest speeds in the Champions League this season.
Something that was perhaps levelled at Liverpool as a rare criticism last season was their lack of pace in comparison to teams such as Paris Saint-Germain.
Jeremie Frimpong hasn’t hit the ground running at Liverpool, but his speed when he gets going is an asset that he hasn’t lost in the move from Bayer Leverkusen.
Frimpong has recorded the third-quickest speed in the Champions League this season, according to UEFA, sprinting at 22.1 miles per hour.
To provide some context for these figures, Usain Bolt reached 27.8mph at one point during his 100-metre world record sprint, but he averaged 23.35mph across the 100m.
Frimpong’s pace is to be expected, but Salah’s inclusion in the top 16 is more of a surprise.
When he arrived at Liverpool, the Egyptian was frighteningly quick. However, over the years he has lost some of the acceleration he used to boast.
Instead, he more often uses his strength to his advantage when dribbling. The fact he has recorded the 11th-quickest speed in the Champions League this season, though, suggests he still has a turn of pace when required!
Along with four other players, he has been clocked at 21.3mph in the competition this campaign.
The next closest Liverpool player is Szoboszlai who ran at 20.9mph, while Cody Gakpo also hit an impressive speed at 20.8mph.
