Dominik Szoboszlai was, again, the standout for Liverpool as he continued to showcase why he is the shining light this season, with supporters quick to recognise his contribution.
The No. 8 is only one of two players who have started 11 games this season, with the Hungarian an invaluable member of Arne Slot‘s side – whether that be in midfield or right-back!
At Frankfurt, he was in his preferred midfield position and finished with an assist and a goal, adding to his game-high four chances created, seven interceptions (joint-most for a Liverpool player) and 17 passes into the final third (second-most).
After another industrious performance that has defined his season so far, Szoboszlai was rightly recognised by supporters as the Reds finally clinched the win we all needed.
Dominik Szoboszlai’s performance tonight is everything you’d want from a Liverpool player. He’s the one who makes it all tick. His intelligence and endless amounts of energy are quickly becoming the heartbeat of this side. Special player.

Biggest thing missing for Liverpool had been connections between players.
Szoboszlai + Wirtz fantastic tonight.
Should be a key building block of the new team. Play them where they can combine as much as possible.

Special mention to Dominik Szoboszlai.
He has been a standout all season while others have struggled.

The positives for #LFC: Ekitike excellent, Wirtz's best game for the club, Szoboszlai carries his superb form, they worked out how to score from a set-piece (!), more minutes into Isak's legs (bit sharper but still room for improvement).
Cons: Frimpong injury, stroppy Salah.

“Hopefully back on track, and if there’s a player to build the team around it’s Szoboszlai, Liverpool’s most important player.” – Sir Keegan in TIA comments.
“Szobo has been an absolute giant for us in this shaky period, wherever he’s asked to play.” – Speelautomaat in TIA comments.
Szoboszlai and Wirtz giving a glimpse of the future tonight, hopefully. Combined so well. Slot needs to stop playing Szoboszlai right back to bring out the best of Wirtz. We’ll create a shit load of chances and Ekitike will take them. Isak miles off it, but will only get better

Szoboszlai and Wirtz.. Going to be some partnership that..
— Red Maz (@RedsPerspective) October 22, 2025
Szoboszlai moves the ball quicker to the free man and with more passing range than any of Liverpool’s other midfielders. That’s the main reason for the team performance improvement here, Slot avoided going down the wrong route which would’ve been playing him at RB.

Szoboszlai has been the shining light for Liverpool this season. Phenomenal player.

Build on this, Brentford away wont be easy but weve got to just win, however we do it. Szoboszlai-Wirtz-Ekitike was a beautiful link today, keep that for Sat. #LFC

Robertson, Jones, Wirtz, Szoboszlai and Ekitike how they've been used today has been great to see. Provide a great technical base, ball progression and balance to the side.

So much better tonight in all facets of our play. More compact, more controlled, more like last season. Reassuring to see us less vulnerable in transition. Szboszlai and Wirtz very good. Hope we go with the same setup on Saturday.

Szoboszlai has been tasked with plugging more than a few holes this season such is his skillset, but Slot needs to keep his No. 8 in midfield more often than not – even if he is more than adept in defence.
Liverpool need to find consistency in their performances and connections with each other and Frankfurt was a good start to rebuilding confidence.
Not to mention the promising signs of the connection that is building between Szoboszlai and Florian Wirtz!
The German side were not the sternest of tests, but the result comes at the perfect time for Liverpool before the trip to Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday evening.
