Dominik Szoboszlai says Liverpool “had a lot of meetings” and are ‘ready to react’

Dominik Szoboszlai has claimed Liverpool “are ready to show a reaction” against Eintracht Frankfurt, after a run of four consecutive defeats.

“I think [it] never happened in my career but [also in] a lot of guys’ careers that we lost four times in a row,” the Hungarian told Liverpoolfc.com ahead of Wednesday’s game.

Well, it hasn’t happened to Liverpool since 2014, and to lose another would be the Reds’ worst losing streak since 1953.

Szoboszlai doesn’t think it will come to that, thankfully, saying: “We have to stick together, that’s most important.

“We had a lot of meetings, we spoke with each other, but the most important [thing] is that we stay together. Because in a good time it’s easy to stay together but it’s the most important thing when it comes to a hard time, how we stay together.

“I think for Wednesday we are ready to show a reaction and that’s what we are going to do.”

On an individual level, Szoboszlai has been playing very well in a campaign that has seen him play in midfield and at right-back.

The same can’t be said for several of his teammates, though, who are lacking form.

“This will turn. If you work hard, you keep going, the luck will go on your side,” stated the 24-year-old.

“Cody (Gakpo) hitting the post three times, we create chances, don’t let chances for the team who we play against. That’s the case. Sometimes it happens and now we have to just keep going.

“The most important [thing] is that I think we have to show again the character what we have, what Liverpool can do and what we are able to do.

“We showed it last season, becoming champions with many points, to be honest. Now everybody is ready for us – but that’s a good thing, you have to take it as a positivity and just be ready for them.”

Expect lots of goals

The match against Frankfurt could be the perfect opportunity for Liverpool’s attackers to re-find some form, given the number of goals their opponents are conceding at the moment.

While they will pose a threat themselves, Frankfurt have conceded 18 goals in their last five outings and have kept zero clean sheets in the last nine matches. They have conceded three or more goals in five of the last seven.

In fact, Frankfurt’s first 10 games of the season have seen a staggering 54 goals – 29 scored by Dino Toppmoller’s side.

With attacking full-backs potentially leaving space in behind for Liverpool’s forwards, Slot will hope his team can use this as an opportunity to gain confidence in front of goal.
