Jordan Henderson dismisses Liverpool crisis – “I don’t really see a weakness”

Former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has played down the Reds’ current woes, also saying the club will always be “special” to him.

Arne Slot‘s men succumbed to a 3-2 loss at Brentford on Saturday, making it an unfathomable four Premier League defeats in succession.

Liverpool look a far cry from the team that cruised to the title last season, with Slot, individuals and the team as a unit looking lost.

Speaking to TNT Sports after Brentford‘s win, Henderson discussed Liverpool’s current woes, finding it hard to pinpoint the issue.

“You look all over the pitch, there’s not much to go at, they’re all quality players,” Henderson said.

“I don’t really see a weakness in the team.

“Yes, I know there’s been results of late that haven’t been great for them but, for me, they’re still top players and a top, top team and it’s just a matter of time before they get in a rhythm and get going.

“I think there have been reasons why they haven’t hit the heights from last year, but they’re still a world-class team.

“Wherever you look on the pitch there’s world-class players, so it’s always going to be difficult, but I thought the lads dug deep, stuck together and caused some problems on the counter.”

Liverpool forever “special” to Henderson

Henderson also spoke about how much Liverpool will always mean to him, despite his rumoured acrimonious exit in the summer of 2023.

“I had been at Liverpool for so long, it’s always deep inside us now and will be forever,” he added.

“It was my life for 12 years, so it was a little bit strange. But I knew once the whistle went, it was business as usual, I would be focused, ready to go and be in the right frame of mind.

“So once the whistle went, I was fully in and felt as good as I ever have.

“I was there 12 years, dedicated a lot of my life. My kids were born there, so it holds a special place in my heart.

“I still want Liverpool to do well – of course not when we’re playing them, but overall – and that will never change.

“The fans have always been amazing, and it was special just to see a few of them. I know they probably left a bit early because of the result, but it was nice to see them again.”

In fairness to Henderson, he was excellent on Saturday night, playing a key role in Brentford outplaying Liverpool.

At 35, it was hoped that the Reds’ midfield would get the better of him, but while Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones were the visitors’ best players, they weren’t able to dominate him.

Liverpool could have done with Henderson’s professionalism and fight, and he will always go down as a club legend for captaining the Reds to Premier League and Champions League glory.
